Odds are if you’ve stumbled across the BackJoy SitSmart in a retail store or while browsing online, you’ve probably noticed its odd shape, holes and bright colors, and wondered to yourself, “what is that thing and what does it do?”
We hate to break it to you, but it’s not a fruit basket, shield or colander. And although we’ve been told it resembles a “squashed, overgrown Wiffle Ball with an attitude”, it’s not that either. You might find some success in using the SitSmart in any of the aforementioned ways, but the SitSmart’s official use is no laughing matter—it improves your posture to relieve back pain.
Really, the idea is so simple, it’s stupid. You take this funny shaped seat, place it on top of any chair you own, sit on it, and voila!—perfect posture, no pain.
So how does it work? Well, put as simply as possible, it tilts your pelvis forward which in turn “floats” your spine over the seat, giving you an ideal s-curve in your spine. Since we’re sitting all day at the office, our favorite place to use it is in an office chair, but it works just as well in a car, or at home in front of the TV.
